Battery Charging & Care Follow
Battery Charging - Single Battery and Dual Battery Options
Battery charging and care are the same for both the integrated downtube battery and the optional second battery (Note: second battery kits do not include a charger, the charger is sold separately). Please follow the charging instructions provided with each bike.
A 48V 2A charger is provided with each bike. You can charge the battery(s) while they are on or off the bike.
Step 1 - Remove the rubber stopper that covers the charging port
Step 2 - Plug the charger adaptor into the battery
Step 3 - Plug the charger into a standard 110V outlet
Step 4 - The light on the charger will be red while the battery is charging and will turn green when the charge is complete. This can take 6 hours or more when a battery is completely discharged. Batteries will not overcharge if left plugged in but it is highly recommended to disconnect the battery when fully charged to avoid damage to the battery and/or risk of fire.
Battery Care
The Li-Ion batteries used on DŌST Bikes use only the highest quality Samsung 18650-format cells for safe, long-lasting and reliable use. Li-Ion batteries are a great improvement over lead-acid and Ni-Cad batteries: they are much lighter, do not suffer “memory effects” and they are non-toxic and recyclable.
When these batteries are well cared for they can provide years of use - up to 1000 complete cycles or more - though like all batteries they do lose their ability to hold a charge over time. There are some things we recommend to extend the life of your battery:
- Fully charge the battery when you receive the bike. Li-ion batteries are best kept at full charge, so charging after each ride is a good practice. Try not to fully deplete the battery, but if you do, try to charge it as soon as possible.
- Try to avoid extreme temperatures - below 32 F (0 C) to above 110 F (43 C) - both while using the battery and while charging. Storing your battery in a cold environment will extend its life.
- Long-term storage - If you must store your battery for several months, try to store it with between 40% and 80% charge. Fully charged or fully discharged are not recommended. If possible try to give the battery a short charge every month or so.

Great information!
its an easy read, and it projects how the Dost E-Bike is a smart choice for anyone to consider purchasing, whether your a beginner or experienced rider of any type or model of an Electric Bicycle.
In the user forums, there has been a lot of questions and conflicting guidance on how best to use the dual battery system. On this page, you say nothing about whether to use one battery at a time or both at once (dual-mode) while riding.
On https://dostbikes.com/product/secondary-battery-kit you say this:
Hey Kim, thank you for voicing your concerns and I'd be glad to try to clear the air!
There seems to be a little bit of confusion between how the dual battery balancer works. If the two batteries are at the same voltage, that's when both batteries are drawn at the same rate. If there is a disparity between the voltage on the two batteries, the display and system will draw and read power from the battery with the higher percentage until both batteries are at equilibrium.
From Bill's comment, this does make sense and is consistent with the system reading the battery with the higher charge. In terms of the best practice when utilizing the batteries, if you are planning on going on a longer trip, turn on the secondary battery so both batteries can drain evenly. If you are, however, only planning on going on a short trip, utilize the main battery. If you find that you are running low on power on the main battery, it is advised to turn on the secondary battery before the charge reaches 20%. This is because lithium ion batteries should be kept between 20-80% charge as often as possible as it is their preferred state of charge.
Hope this helps answer your question!
Thank you,
Gordon
Gordon, thank you. This helps some.
But I am still not sure why I don't exercise both batteries by staying in dual-battery mode all the time. If I were to primarily run off of only the main battery, my secondary battery will, more often than not, be sitting at 100% charge, possibly for weeks on end.
I to am having issues regarding battery usage. How do you switch from dual battery mode to single usage? Yesterday, on a 29 mile ride I returned with less than 5% battery? 20 miles into the ride I was at 62%, within 5 miles it had dropped to 10% and only by staying in 0 or 1 pas was I able to get home. I have 2 batteries, both installed on the bike, and have never depleted the battery like I did yesterday. Could the battery have switched to single mode on its own?
How do I see the charge remaining on the second battery on the display?
Do you recommend using a smart battery charger or battery maintainer to keep the batteries properly charged and maintained over the winter months when it is too cold to ride? Is there a specific smart charger you would recommend? Can you give us smart charger specifications that would ensure safe and effective battery charging and maintenance? Thank you!
