How far will DŌST Bikes go on a charge?

How far an eBike will go is probably the number one concern for people just getting into eBiking. DŌST Bikes using the optional Dual Battery System are capable of distances of up to 180 km (120 mi) on a charge under ideal conditions (smooth ground, flat terrain, moderate speeds, moderate weight etc.). Without the optional second battery, riders can expect 100 km (60 mi) on a single charge.

There are many factors that affect how far you can go on a single charge, what’s known as the range.

• Load - The total load or weight (kg’s or lbs) consists of the rider, the cargo plus the bike itself. The greater the load the more energy you use and the more battery capacity you’ll need to cover a given distance.
• Terrain - Not surprisingly riding up hills uses a lot more energy than riding on flat terrain, as we all know from riding our pedal bikes up hills. More hills = more battery.
• Speed - The faster you ride the more quickly your battery will deplete. If you know you like to ride fast, use higher power assist levels (PAS) or if you like to rely on the throttle, you’ll want more battery capacity. When going over 32 km/h(20mph), you should expect your range to decrease significantly due to the extra energy required to propel the bike.
• Other Factors - Riding with low tire pressure (softer ride with more traction) and riding into a headwind use a surprising amount of the battery’s stored energy. On the flip side, the more pedal power you provide, the longer your battery will last.
